About Me

My photo
Style Destino is my personal style space bout cruelty-free and vegetarian style. Fashion is not above someone's life and it is irresponsible when someone makes a fashion choice that involves taking a poor animal's life. I believe in style that has a conscience. We are in 21st century where technology has advanced immensely, there are myriad options available and any person with a desire can make things happen. So it is sheer selfishness and irresponsible behaviour when people make unethical fashion choices. Through StyleDestino I share everything cruelty-free and ethical in my style. I do not use any handbags, shoes or accessories made from leather (animal skin), the make-up I use is also vegetarian and cruelty free. Luxury and compassion can coexist stylishly and Style Destino is an attempt to prove just that. Vegan fashion is not about dowdy clothes, cheap bags, or tawdry shoes. I can just easily be vegan and trot in my Olsen heels, sporting a Stella McCartney luxurious vegan handbag while showing off my red lips painted with OCC lip tar!! I travel the world around and never find dearth of stylish, high quality vegetarian fashion.

Online Beauty Stores in India

This post was last updated on 3-Oct-2016

Internet has changed the dynamics of shopping - the ease, product and price comparison, convenience, comfort and variety it offers (just at the click of a button) gives it an edge over conventional shopping for most of your shopping needs. Although it can be addictive, I find it the best medium to make your essential purchases especially when it comes to skincare products.

Having lived in England for quite a while, when I got back to India I always missed good online shopping websites back home and when it came to no online beauty stores there absolutely was none. Finding vegan makeup was especially hard. However, over the years many online stores have propped up in India and finally we have some great online beauty stores where we can shop for almost every makeup and skincare brands from the household names to the luxury and exotic international brands that have yet not opened their stores in India and are almost hard to find here.

Here's a list of some of the best online beauty stores of India, which have a wide selection of brands, offer authentic products and are easy to navigate and make purchase from. Amazon and Strawberry are my favorite among all, as they have option of many vegan makeup products!

http://www.nykaa.com
(Products: 8/10; Website: 9/10)

Currently Nykaa is one of the best online beauty stores in India where you can find everything from your desi to international brands all at one place. From Loccitane to Khadi, Biotique to Bio-oil {I love}, Avene to Ananda and Soulflower and Soultree to Himalaya. With great offers, user-friendly navigation, recommended products display and product review by users this website is a haven for, esp budget, beauty lovers.

This online beauty store not only has skincare, makeup and hair products but also retails wellness items including slimming tea, multivitamins and other beauty and wellness related supplements {you can even get vegetarian Acai and amla caplets and vegan Omega 3 supplement here}.

Nysaa offers free shipping over Rs 500 orders and only a Rs 50 flat shipping charge for orders below Rs 500. They also have a rewards program that is a great option if you can find the brands you use here.

What is Nysaa lacking?
- While the website has a good breadth of brands, it still lacks vegan friendly products. Even if it does have vegan products, except a few supplements none are tagged vegan. Most of their makeup brands including L'oreal, Estee Lauder are all non-vegetarian brands.
- Difficult to find good makeup brands including the likes of Urban Decay, Zoya, butter London.
- The website lacks good luxury skincare brands. Or maybe they are not targeting those customers.

http://www.amazon.in
(Products: 9/10; Website 7/10)

With the big daddy of all online stores offering Beauty products in India, you don't have to actually look up for anything anywhere else. Amazon offers mostly every local and the widest range of international brands right at your doorstep at nearly every city in India. Whether you are local for Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics lip tar (vegan) or just a Lakme matte lipstick, Zoya nail polish (vegan) or LYN Nail colors (vegan), Lavera skincare and makeup (vegan) or Forest Essentials its got everything. They even offer cash on delivery options for most international brands.

Best Beauty Store in India - Online beauty stores in India - Style Destino Amazon India Beauty - Vegan Beauty India

I am absolutely in love with Amazon's beauty offering and its my personal favorite as I can order nearly every brand from around the world. The only catch is that since these are sold by international sellers or are imported by Amazon, the cost of the products can be 2x or sometimes even 4x than their original MRP in that country. Moreover shipping price varies from seller to seller, unlike other stores where shipping is free after a certain amount, this can work out expensive sometimes.

Regardless, Amazon is one of the best ways to get your vegan beauty box loaded. Just search for word vegan in Beauty category and you will be spoiled with choice.

http://www.violetbag.com

Violet Bag is an Indian online beauty store that sells make-up, skin and hair care, bath and body products, fragrances and beauty tools of the most popular and widely used brands in India like L'Oreal, Olay, Ponds, Neutrogena, Revlon, Lakme, Maybelline, Dove, Lotus Herbals, Biotique, Himalaya and Vichy. The USP of the website is its discounted prices and user-friendliness. Once I selected what I wanted it took me less than 5 minutes to place the order. You just key-in your details, basics like your name, billing and delivery address, email ID and phone number, and you are done. Violetbag offers free delivery on orders over Rs 250 and cash on delivery option. They also offer some free gift on most of their orders (in my case I got a compact mirror). Most of the products would be at a discounted price from the MRP and the discount can range from 3%-25%. Everything I ordered had atleast a 10% markdown.

The customer service desk of VioletBag works between 10am-7pm (closed on Sundays) and is very efficient. I had a query that I posted online and within 10 minutes I received a reply from their team (it was during working hours). And the reply was absolutely satisfactory.

VioletBag's website is user-friendly, you can filter products by brand name, price or category (make-up, lip colour, lip gloss, etc). What probably would make it a more desirable online beauty store is if:
- it had some range of premium and luxury beauty brands and
- it included list of ingredients of every product.
- it provided next day delivery option (even if it was chargeable).

If you are looking for luxury beauty brands, continue reading about urbanshore.in below.

Would definitely recommend VioletBag for online shopping. You get the stuff delivered at home at no extra charge (which means you save on time and petrol) plus you buy it at prices below the MRP. What else could you ask for?

http://inen.strawberrynet.com (English)
or http://in.strawberrynet.com (Hindi)

One of the best online beauty stores of the world, Strawberry.net has been in India now for quite sometime. It really is a one stop shop for your beauty shopping. From luxury to highstreet and drugstore it has it all. La Mer, Peter Thomas Roth, Chantecaille, Dr. Hauschka, MAC, L'Oreal you name it and they have it. They offer free shipping and always have ongoing offers and discounts to make your shopping fun. The perfect online beauty store.

www.aplava.com

Aplava is India's first personalized beauty online store and has a good mix of Indian and International beauty brands. They have many vegan-friendly product options too including from brands like Ren, Thalgo, Vana Vidhi. They offer free express shipping on orders over Rs 999 and only Rs 50 on orders below this; their customer service team is very responsive.

What I didn't like that on most products the complete list of Ingredients is not disclosed, despite having an Ingredients tab in the product detail. Instead they added only the marketing pitch of the key ingredients found in the product. Adding full list of ingredients helps, because as a customer I can decide if the ingredients in the product is safe for use or not.

http://www.flipkart.com/

Surprised? What is the online book store {and online electronics retailer} doing on this list? Even I was, but when I checked out the beauty section of the Indian e-commerce behemoth I was more than pleased, they had a huge brand and product list that I could not find even in an exclusive online beauty store offering {barring strawberrynet.com}.

From the common names like Revlon, Biotique, Lakme to luxury labels Elizabeth Arden, Bobbi Brown, Lancome and even the international brands that have not still not entered Indian markets Dr Haushcka (likes of Julia Roberts love this German brands and I swear by its rose hip oil), Madara (natural and cruelty free skincare from latvia), Origins, Murad, Manufaktura (Czechoslovakian brand known for wine ingredient in its products) - the list is gob-smacking.

However, when I gave a closer look, I was a little disappointed; Flipkart faced the same problem as beautykafe - a huge brand list but very tiny product range in most of them. They only had a shampoo from Beauty Without Cruelty (BWC) - no makeup from a brand that is known for its cruelty-free makeup, just a shampoo. That was super disappointing as I love BWC's lipsticks so much so that I order them from UK {its hard to find a proper veg lipstick in India, isn't that a shame?}. Same was the case with Aveda - it is known for skincare but the only product Flipkart are selling from Aveda is, again, a shampoo. Similarly they only have one product from Clarisonic - an anti-aging serum; considering Clarisonic is actually known for its cleansing devices. A shame isn't it? {never mind you can find Clarisonic at junglee}. They had a very small selection even from NYX considering its a very budget-friendly and common brand (jabong and nykaa have a very wide offering of NYX at discounted rates) and the list goes on.

$$$ wise - Moreover, since these brands have not yet officially launched in India, the products are 100% imported and hence their pricing is quite steep. For example Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Serum (50ml) retails at Rs 10,100 on Flipkart while if you buy it from US or UK its only Rs 4800. And if you buy it from Strawberrynet a 100ml will cost you Rs 11,867.

SJ's Take - I'd say Flipkart has made a good start, atleast these brands are now present in India and as the people will get familiar to them they would, eventually, easily be available at a fraction of cost. So if I now have a beauty SOS and do not mind shelling out a premium for these labels, I have an option. While for the regular, bread and butter, beauty needs I'd definitely Flipkart it.

And that comes with the amazing delivery and customer service of Flipkart. They deliver in most major cities within a day or two, in fact a friend from Satna told me that she received one of her Flipkart orders the very next day of placing it, while other couriers take 7-10 days to reach her in Satna.

Free Delivery, free returns, multiple payment options (COD too) and a very easy to use website that's Flipkart Beauty for you.

http://www.beautykafe.com
(Products: 7/10; Website: 8/10)

When you find your Bobbi Brown, Maybelline, NYX, Biotique, Nature's Co, Urban Decay, Sally Hensen all at one place your it definitely makes your life easier. Beauty Kafe is that one place in India's online beauty space offering a wide range of brands in skincare, makeup, haircare, bath and body, fragrance and even nutrition.

It even stocks the niche brands like Thalgo {you'll only find it otherwise at high-end spas}, MADARA, a natural and cruelty-free brand from Latvia in Northern Europe. I've been using their hand and night creams but had to always order them from England. While Beauty Kafe has a good selection of brands and attempts to keep a wide range, you'd find only a few products from certain brands for example I was disappointed to only find a lip gloss from Madara, nothing from their skincare range for which it is famous (you'll find MADARA's skincare range at Flipkart); it had very limited products from Bobbi Brown and in certain cases like Moroccan Oil most of the products have been showing 'SOLD OUT' for long periods. Nevertheless it offers a great selection and looks promising.

Easy navigation, sufficient filters for easy selection of products, free shipping {above Rs 699 orders}, multiple payment options including cash on delivery, 30-day free returns are few things that makes it a great website to shop.

http://www.urbanshore.in
(Products: 3/10; Website: 3/10)

At last a wonderful Indian online beauty store where you can shop the products of some of the best international beauty brands. Jo Wood, Butter London {cruelty free nail paints}, Korres, Rodial, This Works, ICS Skin Therapie are some of the international brands that you can find on this website featuring products for both men and women. In addition to beauty products this website also sells authentic FitFlop footwear. You can get crystal nail file from Leighton Denny, Dr Lipp's organic lip balm for beautiful unchapped lips or deep cleansing B Kamins clay mask to go away with those acnes and get a brightened skin all just by a click of a button.

What I love about Urbanshore.in, which most of the online beauty stores in India lack, is that they have listed ingredients of most of the products on their website. So for a vegetarian person with sensitive skin like me it is a big relief and help.

The website offers next day delivery service in Mumbai and Delhi and their customer services desk is quite helpful and efficient. A major drawback of shopping on Urbanshore.in is that they do not accept Mastercard. So if your credit card is Mastercard, they will not accept it for payment. However they have other modes of payments that you could discuss with their online team. Moreover they offer free shipping only on orders above Rs 7,500 {or is it Rs 3,000? I am confused as home page says 7500 while in FAQs it is 3000}, orders less than this amount as per FAQs are charged Rs 250 flat.

Urbanshore should offer the following to make their website more convenient to shop:
- Reduce the bar of Rs 7,500 {for that matter even for Rs 3,000} to a lower amount on free delivery.
- Cash on Delivery option, most beauty websites offer cash on delivery service. Makes it convenient for clients who do not have credit card or are unwilling to use it.
- Navigation needs to be improved: (i) View All products link does not work (error), (ii) more filters are needed in searching for the product eg when you select brand you can't put the filter of eye, lip or face in the makeup category, (iii) the page selection and view all option not there at the bottom where the last product is displayed, so you have to scroll up and go to next page.
- The website is a little slow, they must check their servers.

If you love makeup and beauty then you can also subscribe to beauty boxes. They offer monthly subscription service and deliver you a box of makeup and skincare goodies every month to try your hands on. My Envybox (starts at Rs 850 pm)and Sugarbox (starts at Rs 1,499 pm) are two leading beauty box companies in India,
