About Me

My photo
Style Destino is my personal style space bout cruelty-free and vegetarian style. Fashion is not above someone's life and it is irresponsible when someone makes a fashion choice that involves taking a poor animal's life. I believe in style that has a conscience. We are in 21st century where technology has advanced immensely, there are myriad options available and any person with a desire can make things happen. So it is sheer selfishness and irresponsible behaviour when people make unethical fashion choices. Through StyleDestino I share everything cruelty-free and ethical in my style. I do not use any handbags, shoes or accessories made from leather (animal skin), the make-up I use is also vegetarian and cruelty free. Luxury and compassion can coexist stylishly and Style Destino is an attempt to prove just that. Vegan fashion is not about dowdy clothes, cheap bags, or tawdry shoes. I can just easily be vegan and trot in my Olsen heels, sporting a Stella McCartney luxurious vegan handbag while showing off my red lips painted with OCC lip tar!! I travel the world around and never find dearth of stylish, high quality vegetarian fashion.

What just happened?

Are men really so dumb-witted that women can manipulate them into marriages, break-ups, earning ever more; while the poor dears wouldn't even know that they're being manipulated*?

Zara Dress, Aldo Shoes, Stella McCartney Falabella Bag, River Island Belt

Keeping the self-promise of no more blacks would have been a real crime when my eyes caught the attention of this simple uncomplicated dress while wandering through the shelves of Zara. It was love at first sight -  the effect of a minimal shape yet smart tailoring that turned the structured fabric to a shift dress was quite arresting. And honestly no other colour could have done justice to this other than black. So here I am yet again just reminding myself that as much as I have started loving colours, black is black. The power and magnetism that black emanates cannot be ignored and it eventually pulls you in. Just like true love.

'What just happened?', I was inspired by this title (copied?) from an article featured in GQ (hey I am giving Mitali Saran the full credit for this) and I had to use it. I had decided no more black in my wardrobe and the fact that now I see addition of another black clothing just makes me wonder - "What just happened?".

Ok back to GQ's What just happened - Are women expert manipulators?

To my shock, disbelief and a lot of other emotions, sprouting in my heart and mind after reading this beautiful piece of article (I can't even figure out what emotions are sprouting in me right now...... Lol. I shouldn't be so dramatic here, I can seldom figure them out considering the un-emotional part of me is usually stronger), What just happened is an article that talks about how women are expert manipulators and have a near 100% success in manipulating men in all kinds of things including relationships/marriages, break-ups/divorce, sex/abstinence, earning ever more/forking it over and the so-called 'poor men' don't even realise its happening to them* (where are these men and why can't I find one?), and this article is written by not-a-man, but a woman. Can you believe it?

"But boys, you have no idea how much you're being played all the time. It's so easy to play you that it's patently unfair, and the scale on which it happens verges on abuse. A sigh, a tear, a tinkling laugh, a furrowed brow ... that's all a woman needs to get you on board with an agenda you're not even aware of. Do you know what women do? They sit around with a bunch of friends and many, many alcoholic drinks later, they laugh at you until tears are rolling down their faces.*"

Seriously? Are men really so innocuous and simple that they'll fall in the trap?

History has shown how men have been the great manipulators whether it is in the field of business or politics and yes even in relationships. They have used the tool of manipulation for the need for power and control over their lives and it is no secret that even today, although the world would say women are equals in every field, the statistics paints a different picture. The man of the house is still a man and whoever says its otherwise clearly has not seen the world.

Beauty with brains - have we not been convinced that it is an oxymoron? So much so that even the women agree to it. Men continue to use manipulation to play mind games with a woman to show her that they are superior. And talk about emotional manipulation....... Hasn't that been a century-old epidemic fed by men, an epidemic that defines women as over-sensitive, crazy and irrational. So no matter what a man does it makes it completely alright for him to to shut his woman down or make her reaction sound frivolous by inconsiderate remarks like 'Calm down, you're over-reacting' (even if that reaction is caused by catching her cheating husband), 'You're so stupid', 'Can't you do something right'.

I am not condemning men and trying to make believe that women are the innocent lot here. But I don't buy that men are oblivious to the manipulation that they fall prey to and everything that they do is played by a manipulative woman. Who are we kidding?

I am not really an expert (not even close) to talk about the men-women-manipulating-theory but this does give me a fodder for thought that either the world really turned upside-down and went fast track leaving me behind in a world where the men knew what they were doing and had their own agenda in falling in the trap or the whole men-being-manipulated-by-women theory is skewed.

  2. I actually agree with the women being the expert manipulators theory, just because when a woman puts her mind to something she sees it through. Men underestimate women, that's the biggest mistake they make, and yu know what? I have actually had those sessions where we sat drinking cocktails and laughing at men.

This was a nice read, and the dress is the exception to the rule. too cute

  4. S J,

Manipulating is not confined to one gender only. Persons of both can when needed use it.

    Take care

  6. I don't think there's one man out there who doesn't realize they are being manipulated by women. That's cause we want something from you gals. Every guy has an "exit strategy" in place and once we don't get what we want that's when the plan is put into effect. Men don't have a high emotional quotient on the other hand, women have so much emotional baggage, manipulation is kind of a side effect. It all starts when she gets involved in a relationship, thats when we guys realize... ohh damn, i suddenly found a ball and chain on my leg.. if women played their cards straight without any hanky panky in between, you don't know the true potential of what your missing out with us guys...:P
