About Me

My photo
Style Destino is my personal style space bout cruelty-free and vegetarian style. Fashion is not above someone's life and it is irresponsible when someone makes a fashion choice that involves taking a poor animal's life. I believe in style that has a conscience. We are in 21st century where technology has advanced immensely, there are myriad options available and any person with a desire can make things happen. So it is sheer selfishness and irresponsible behaviour when people make unethical fashion choices. Through StyleDestino I share everything cruelty-free and ethical in my style. I do not use any handbags, shoes or accessories made from leather (animal skin), the make-up I use is also vegetarian and cruelty free. Luxury and compassion can coexist stylishly and Style Destino is an attempt to prove just that. Vegan fashion is not about dowdy clothes, cheap bags, or tawdry shoes. I can just easily be vegan and trot in my Olsen heels, sporting a Stella McCartney luxurious vegan handbag while showing off my red lips painted with OCC lip tar!! I travel the world around and never find dearth of stylish, high quality vegetarian fashion.

Mandy T Skincare - Shopping in Singapore nana bird

I just realised I really hadn't done the much deserved post on this little gem I discovered on one of my (not so recent) trips to Singapore. While you definitely need some high street brands to get your fashion dose, the wardrobe isn't really complete without some amazing designers and stand out styles; which is the reason I always make it a point to get out of the malls and find local designers or stores that have bespoke designers or stock from relatively unknown or not so ubiquitous talented designers and upcoming labels.

nana & bird is a charming well hidden quaint fashion and accessories store in Singapore that stocks well curated designs of independent emerging designers and labels from around the world. The brand was initially launched as a pop-up store {in Shanghai and Singapore} that eventually graduated to a multi-designer store retaining its charm and well-curated selection.

I visited nana and bird on my last day in Singapore, as it was away from most popular areas and shopping districts in Singapore and needed a de-routing from your plans. Located in a thriving, mostly residential, neighbourhood, with minimal but interesting shopping and cafes, this store was totally worth the visit. While nana and bird has two stores in Singapore, both are in the same neighbourhood, walking distance from each other.

White washed and minimalist decor of nana & bird invite you to this charming store, letting the clothes do all the talking.With an amazing selection of jewelry that's all displayed on a table to beautiful dresses and clothes from monotone to brights, their selection follows certain design aesthetics that would typically charm a more sophisticated yet playful woman who has an eye for good things and has a good taste. But aesthetically speaking, there's something for everyone, but not in the way that a high street brand caters to the masses.I found their jewelry selection varying from eclectic to boho to minimalist and most of it handmade and sourced from different parts of the world.

Apart from fashion they also stock a few skincare and fragrance brands following the same minimalist philosophy. I loved the scrubs from the natural, handcrafted  and ecofriendly brand Mandy T, and also discovered a Singaporean artisanal  perfumery code deco, which is actually started by an Indian Gauri Garodia {they have some really beautiful perfumes, in fact code deco is also available in India, I discovered them at Le Mill in Mumbai}

Although its not exorbitantly priced, but its still more expensive that your regular high street brands, but worth the money.My favourites at the store were dresses from Singaporean designer Aijek and Swedish designer Patouf, absolutely stunning jewelry from New York based label Faux/Real. What disappointed me was that they didn't have anything for a vegan in the shoes and bag department, everything was leather. Hopefully they'll have a more varied accessory selection the next time I visit Singapore.
