About Me

My photo
Style Destino is my personal style space bout cruelty-free and vegetarian style. Fashion is not above someone's life and it is irresponsible when someone makes a fashion choice that involves taking a poor animal's life. I believe in style that has a conscience. We are in 21st century where technology has advanced immensely, there are myriad options available and any person with a desire can make things happen. So it is sheer selfishness and irresponsible behaviour when people make unethical fashion choices. Through StyleDestino I share everything cruelty-free and ethical in my style. I do not use any handbags, shoes or accessories made from leather (animal skin), the make-up I use is also vegetarian and cruelty free. Luxury and compassion can coexist stylishly and Style Destino is an attempt to prove just that. Vegan fashion is not about dowdy clothes, cheap bags, or tawdry shoes. I can just easily be vegan and trot in my Olsen heels, sporting a Stella McCartney luxurious vegan handbag while showing off my red lips painted with OCC lip tar!! I travel the world around and never find dearth of stylish, high quality vegetarian fashion.

Zara Pleat Skirt, Theory White Shirt, Stella McCartney Bag,  KG by Kurt Geiger Shoes, Outhouse Neckpiece
& other stories Ring,  Christian Dior So Real Sunglasses

Accordion-pleat skirt has made a major comeback for fall and when I spotted this gorgeous green one at Zara, I had to have it. With Fall around the corner, every fashion girl needs a few season's must-have pieces in her arsenal. If you are living in Dubai or just visiting you're in for a treat as it is no surprise that Dubai is the mecca of the fashion world with world's largest shopping malls and nearly every designer and brand from every nook and cranny of the world available in the city.

This means its easy to get lost considering you have thousands of shops, hundreds of malls and one mall that gives every mall in the world a run for their money - The Dubai Mall compromising 5.9 million square feet area {and >1200 stores, an aquarium, ice skating rink and even an indoor theme park}.

Take a look at some of the best shopping spots in the city, I now call my second home.

Shoes: The famous District Shoe Level at the Dubai Mall is known to everyone, but with its very very limited and rare vegan options even this daddy of all shoe stores may disappoint the ethical shoppers. Thank God for the high street stores and premium brands (plus a Stella McCartney store}, the shoe aficionados like me love Dubai! Kurt Geiger is undoubtedly the best place to buy vegan-friendly shoes for women (their Miss KG , Carven and KG by Kurt Geiger lines have vegan-friendly shoes options), followed by Charles and Keith and Steve Madden. Guys, don't fret! Call it Spring shoe stores across Dubai have some really good vegan-friendly shoe options for you including the hard-to-find leather-free men's formal shoes. Yes, you can thank me for this!

Lingerie: The one thing I hate about  Dubai is the lack of good lingerie stores. Despite all its glitz and glamour and presence of nearly every good brand on earth when it comes down to practical and good lingerie there are very very few options. While you have nearly every luxury lingerie brand in Dubai from La Perla, Stella McCartney, Elle McPherson to Spanx, and the likes of it but when it comes to options and sizes, like if you need an off-beat size like 30DD, 30E or a 40F, you'll be disappointed. Finding the good lingerie is a difficult task nearly everywhere (barring the UK and a few places in US), but I continued my search and finally discovered Klynn Lingerie Store at the Mall of Emirates, the best lingerie store in Dubai. It has nearly every size and style you want and stocks good lingerie brands from Chantelle, Calvin Klein, Freya to Wacoal and Simone Perele. Galeries Lafayette in Dubai Mall also has a decent lingerie section, and the staff is quite helpful too!

I also found some really good vegan-friendly sleepwear options here. For the best pajamas and cotton no VPL knickers there's Oysho (Dubai Mall). Nothing makes me happier than finding the right lingerie because without a good foundation everything else doesn't fall in place. Where? Mall of Emirates, Dubai Festival City, Mirdiff Center

Contemporary and affordable luxury fashion and accessories: I love, love, love S*uce for shopping. Known for stocking hot new fashion and design talent from around the world (including local and regional designers), Sauce is the perfect place for some retail therapy. From hip young and up-coming brands to the most coveted designers (Alexander Wang, Carven, Mary Katranzou), quirky accessories to classy evening gowns and diffusion lines you will never leave this curated concept store disappointed. I like to come here for inspiration but usually, end up purchasing something. I highly recommend to stop by to stock up on some statement pieces that will be for keeps or vegan-friendly bags {have you seen the embroidered handcrafted bags from Paris?}. If you can't splurge, they have a well stocked accessories section and host of other accessories. Where? Sauce has stores all over Dubai from The Dubai Mall to Jumeirah. For more beachwear style check their JBR store at the beach.

Multi-designer Luxury: While you have Saks Fifth Avenue to Bloomingdales and Harvey Nicholas, Boutique 1 at the Mall of Emirates is hands down the best luxury multi-designer store in Dubai with a drool worthy designer list and great selection. From jewelry to denim to high-fashion it has the best of everything. Their JBR store is equally good.

Sunglasses: I am not referring to the ubiquitous Dior, Prada, Gucci's of the world that are available at every next store in Dubai. If you like fine craftsmanship, exclusive pieces and brands (Linda Farrow, Dita, Mykita, Frency & Mercury in addition to the usual Dior, YSL, Victoria Beckham and Alexander McQueen) then the little known Kuwaiti store EYE BOUTIQUE is the best place to give your face an instant makeover. Where? The Dubai Mall. The store is located at the corner near the waterfall entrance and is easy to miss (but don't).

Perfumes: Nothing uplifts the mood better than a good fragrance, but you don't want to smell good by taking the life of poor animals or from scent that's made from wacky ingredients. If you didn't know already or didn't believe, let me tell you that most popular perfumes contain ingredients that come from animals - whale poop, genital scent sacs of the castor beaver, faecal paste extracted from the anal glands of the civet cat. I'm not bluffing merely stating well-researched fact. Considering the love of Arabs for good perfumes you're in luck. Dubai does have plenty of cruelty-free perfume options. My favorites are the unique handmade fragrance from Le Labo followed by Byredo and Penhaligon's. Where? Penhalogon's has a store in Dubai Mall, and the rest you can find at Paris Gallery (multiple locations) and Saks Fifth Avenue {Burjuman}.

Vegan beauty and skincare in Dubai: Skincare and makeup is another area where Dubai disappoints. Dubai is still living in the chemically loaded luxury cosmetics age which is such a passé. The city lacks availability of good organic, natural and esp vegan skincare and makeup brands. Fortunately, things are looking up and there are many clean, organic and vegan-friendly brands now available in Dubai. Where to buy?

  1. Jumeirah is a hub for luxe off-beat stores and the laid-back Californian style Palm Strip Mall in the area is where I found this little gem "makeup etc". I've been dying to get my hands on Rahua shampoos and I was literally jumping with joy when I found it here. Apart from Rahua this organic and natural makeup and beauty store in Dubai stocks vegan-friendly brands like Sachajuan {you'll love their shampoos}, Suki {I swear by their organic face oil} and The Organic Pharmacy.
  2. At the Dubai Mall and many other malls, there is Lush Cosmetics for the best red lipsticks in the world and the organic beauty store Neal Yard Remedies.
  3. There are many amazing vegan-friendly and cruelty-free makeup brands available at Sephora including Kat Von D (her lipsticks and eyeliner are the best), Urban Decay (not all products are vegan but many vegan options like Naked Foundation and lip gloss, eyeliner), Benefit Cosmetics (not all vegan), Anastasia Beverly Hills (not all vegan). Look out for ingredients like carmine, lanolin, cera alba (beeswax) and honey before buying any of the above brands.
  4. Other great options for vegan-friendly and organic beauty and skincare are Life Pharmacy and The Organic Foods & Cafe (located at Sheikh Zayed Road and Jumeirah). From vegan toothpaste, organic makeup, skincare (human and kind face wash are the best), shampoos to vegan handwash these two stores are the best places in town to find all things vegan and, of course, organic. You can find vegan-friendly beauty brands like Avalon Organics, Alba Botanica and Nature's Gate at Life Pharmacy and Sante, Dr Haucshka, Human+Kind, Sukin and many more at Organic Foods & Cafe.

Gold Jewelry: Dubai and the yellow metal have a long and strong relationship, and with the myriad Gold Souks in the city and around you definitely have to indulge in some beautiful gold jewelry when in Dubai (thanks to no VAT and sales taxes making Dubai the cheapest place to buy gold). The Gold Souk Dubai is definitely the best place to buy gold with its staggering options but if you don't have time and energy the souk inside the Dubai Mall also has some good jewelry stores with beautiful designs worth spending your dough on.

Statement Jewelry: Souk Al Bahar is a breath of fresh air after you've spent hours in the craziness of Dubai Mall. This Arabic-style mall looks a whole different world with many restaurants, cafes and antique, carpet, and lifestyle stores. Right when you enter there's a small cart selling jewelry with an array of most gorgeous statement necklaces, rings, and earring at reasonable prices. If you're looking for some antique jewelry, you'll find a few stores as you further walk in the souk - I call them treasure trove!

Home and Teas - Galeries Lafayette: While the fashion section at this French departmental store is amazing, I especially love their tea section. The selection of flavors is a little overwhelming with brands from all over the world. In fact, their whole home section is a fun place to browse and discover something new. The perfect place to give your home the chic Parisian upgrade! Where? Dubai Mall.

Comptoir 102: Enter the world of Parisian bohemian chic at this well-curated store with French-inspired home decor and furniture, delicate jewellery, timeless art and standout accessories. When you are done shopping just sit and relax in their vegan-friendly cafe with the option of indoor and outdoor seating. I absolutely love their fresh smoothies and juices.Oh they also keep Kure Bazaar's natural cruelty-free and vegan nail polishes and superfood snack bars from Wild and the MoonWhere? 102 Beach Rd Jumeirah 1 {04 385 4555}.

Best Malls in Dubai? While I know many Dubaiites dread going to The Dubai Mall since you have to walk miles to go from one store to the other, it still is my favorite place to shop because you get all brands and the newest collection and will rarely not find something in your size {if they offer}. With its super high density, The Dubai Mall has every designer and brand you can imagine - from multi-designer stores like Bloomingdales and Sauce to independent designer stores from luxury to premium and high street (of every country). My favorite stores at the mall are Bloomingdales, Maje, COS, Topshop, Kurt Geiger, Stella McCartney, Charles and Keith, Lush, Galleries Lafayette, Banana Republic, Muji, Sandro and Reiss. Mall of Emirates is another great mall if you don't want to walk miles and has most brands and designer stores including the famous Harvey Nicholas.

This isn't a comprehensive list, but places I had to sweat around to find!

Psst: Happy Shopping!
